African Lion Safari - Cambridge, Canada

African Lion Safari

African Lion Safari is a Canadian owned family business created in the name of conservation. Our manner of exhibiting animals is completely different from the traditional approach; that is, the visitor is caged in the car, and the animals roam in 2 to 20 hectare (5 to 50 acre) reserves. We first opened the gates to the public in 1969 with 40 lions in 3 reserves; today the park houses in excess of 1000 animals of over 100 species. After 39 years we have been successful with breeding 30 species that are considered endangered, and 20 or more species that are considered threatened. The original idea of "maintaining self-sustaining populations of species in decline" is still our priority.

The drive thru was nice and worth doing, sufficient room to pass on the road if needed. The animals were some of the most active we've seen in a drive thru safari. You can also hit the drive thru as many times as you wish.

Try to use the restrooms before you get there if you are a women, the lines can be somewhat lengthy. The park it's self was ok and since it was included in the price of the drive thru, it's worth taking a peak at. There are pony rides for the kids at an afordable $4.00 and an elephant ride for the family at $5.00. The train that takes you around the park is $8.00. There is a small waterpark for the kids and a petting zoo. There are 3-4 shows daily, that if timed right, you can hit one after the other since they are within a short distance from each other. Food cost is what one would expect to pay for theme park food (approx $2.00 for a bottle of water). However there are a lot of picnic tables so you could bring your own food and save a lot.
